BREED TO THE BEST by Christian Cullen from Advance Debra
(three-quarter brother to Courage Under Fire)
CHRISTIAN FIRE is a young stallion with everything. He's got looks, he's got race performance, he's got manners, a great temperament and he's a CHRISTIANyou can afford with COURAGE as well.
This fabulous young son of Christian Cullen is also a three-quarter brother to Courage Under Fire, from the broodmare gem Advance Debra, a racewinning daughter of record-breaking sire Vance Hanover.
While his maternal grand-dam, Deborah Dundee, won three races, and later secured New Zealand's highest broodmare crown, the Broodmare Excellence Award, during the 1998-99 season. This family is harness racing royalty.
Christian Fire is based at Richard and Julia Aubrey's Alldone Stables in Dunsandel, about 40km south of Christchurch.
On the track Christian Fire won seven races and $62,000, pacing 1.59.6 winning at Addington as a three-year-old, and placing at Ashburton earlier that season in 1.56, while trained by Robbie Holmes in North Canterbury. Robbie also broke in Christian Fire and said he was a pleasure to train.
"Christian Fire was a high speed, good-gaited colt. He had a great temperament, which made him easy to train, and was a tradesman on race day,'' Robbie said.
Driven mainly by Holmes throughout his race career Christian Fire also impressed other drivers who won with him, Colin De Filippi, who drove Courage Under Fire throughout his phenomenal race career, and Tim Williams.
Colin said: Christian Fire ``had his brother's manners and willing attitude.'' Tim said:Christian Fire "was a lovely horse to drive with high speed".
An outstanding bay with grey flecks, Christian Fire has inherited the family looks and is strikingly similar to Courage Under Fire. At 15 hands, he is taller than Courage Under Fire though who became known as the 'Pocket Rocket' during his trail-blazing race career and went on to become a top sire, proving that in this family size is irrelevant.
Christian Fire had his last race as a five-year-old in June last year, and retired a young stallion with great fertility and a realistic, recession-busting stud fee of $1500 plus GST.
He is owned by the Sandridge Racing Syndicate, comprising his breeder Wally Radford of Rangiora, Wally's partner, Diane Richardson, and Wally's daughter, Fiona Mules, also of Rangiora.
A lovely stallion to handle, Christian Fire was a joy to work with during a recent photo assignment, showing the professional attitude that made him a top racehorse, and is serving him well in his new career at stud.
